When nature creates: the unique beauty of The Plitvice Lakes

In 1979, the most beautiful site in Croatia was granted a World Heritage site title from UNESCO. An undeniably impressive region, the Plitvice Lakes National Park is located halfway from the capital Zagreb and Zadar. The unique beauty of the National Park is with its 16 gorgeous lakes interconnected by waterfalls set on woodland areas with precious animals like bears, deers and rare birds. With a total of 300 square kilometers, the lakes are joined together, covering a distance of 8 kilometers. It is an impressive region with a lot of incredible sights to offer for any willing traveler.

The lakes are open for public the entire year but it is open for longer hours every summer. There is a fee that is used to maintain the park. Across the national park and the lakes are wooden trails traversing across end to end of various water bodies. In aerial view, the lakes are crystal clear and when the glistening sun shines through, it is like being in a unique paradise that offers incredible appeal to those who like incredible beauty. You will certainly fall in love with each lake over and over again.

Hiking is the best way to travel in the Plitvice lakes National Park. Enjoy the forest, the atmosphere, the scent, the water bodies, and the whole majesty that is in front of you. It is rare to see such an incredible connection of bodies of water and how they transform the land into a lush, verdant region that is protected to ensure that the future generations can enjoy its impressive beauty and allure. You can ride a panoramic train or bus on different routes of the park. This will give you a different angle to the wonderful region. Do not forget to get your camera since there are some very photo worthy things that you might not want to forget.

Each lake, cascade, waterfall and rock has its own personality and charm. When you visit here, use comfortable walking shoes as you will be traveling quite a mileage on foot. It gives you incredible exercise and it also gives you a sublime experience of nature that you might never see anywhere else. It is a real wonder how these formations came to being and how they hold up even with the modernization all around. Still, with high tourism support and the strict rules on maintaining and preserving the national park, you can truly discover the beauty that is Plitvice lakes.

Behold: the sublime majesty of Meteora

When you hear the word Meteora, it feels like a majestic, heavenly body, an awful magical power from the gods or an epic superpower in video games. But wait, this name is an actual place, a manifestation of all that is sublime. Meteora, Greece is a UNESCO world heritage site. One of the most extensive Eastern Orthodox monastic structures in the country. There are 6 buildings created on rock pillars made of natural sandstone. The nearest town and a good starting point is Kalamba.

In such a region that is almost inaccessible due to the towering and steep formation of sandstone, it is a wonder how the Monks from the 11th century were able to transform the peaks to majestic structures of heavenly appeal. There is a total of 24 monasteries created painstakingly albeit the incredible difficulties of the terrain. Is it divine intervention? You will sense a unique feeling of sublimity even if it is just a building on top of a massive pillar of sandstone.

The Meteora is a site not only of visual wonders but it is more of a place of meditation, of feeling and of retreat. The purpose of the buildings are meant to make one a lot more closer to God and it does give you that incredible feeling as you venture forth into this region. Of course, due to the impact of time, some of the structures have started to show some wear and tear and that is why it is carefully being maintained. It is a region of incredible beauty and it is a pillar of Christian faith for many.

Each monastery has its unique personality. Nonetheless, each one is equally incredible to see and explore. For a regular traveler or someone who wants to feel closer to his or her faith, you will find something that will make you closer to your goal. The architecture and the sheer resilience of the workers who did the monasteries is just incredible. The experience of finally stepping inside one of the many monasteries is just incredible and you will have to do it yourself to find out how it really feels. It is one of those things that is beyond the human language, it is the language of human condition and faith that really prevails when you behold the majesty that is Meteora. One visit here might be enough to really give you such an incredible peace of mind.
